How to export a WhatsApp chat (iPhone and Android)

Neverfar works from one thing: a plain text export of a WhatsApp conversation. No account linking, no phone access, no scraping. You export the chat yourself and upload the file. Here is exactly how to do it. On iPhone 1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat you want. 2. Tap the contact or group name at the top. 3. Scroll all the way down and tap "Export Chat". 4. Choose "Without Media". Media makes the file huge and Neverfar only reads text. 5. Pick where to save it — "Save to Files" is the easiest. You will get a .txt file (sometimes inside a .zip). On Android 1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat. 2. Tap the three dots in the top right. 3. Tap More, then "Export chat". 4. Choose "Without media". 5. Save it to your Files app or send it to yourself. What the file looks like Open it and you should see lines like: [12/03/2024, 21:14:03] Salma: are you eating properly or not That is all Neverfar needs. Each line has a date, a time, a name, and a message. Common problems The export only has a few hundred messages. WhatsApp exports what is stored on your phone. If you cleared the chat or reinstalled the app, older messages are gone from the device and cannot be exported. Check whether an older backup or a second device still has them. The file is a .zip. Unzip it first and upload the .txt inside. Names look wrong. If the person was saved under a nickname, that nickname appears in the export. That is fine — after uploading, Neverfar shows you every name in the file and you pick which one to become. Messages are missing in the middle. Deleted messages export as "This message was deleted". Neverfar ignores those lines. How much is enough A few hundred messages is enough to get a recognisable writing style. A few thousand is much better. The more real back-and-forth in the file, the more the replies sound like the person instead of a generic assistant. What happens next You upload the .txt, choose the person you want, and Neverfar reads the file to learn how that person writes — the phrases they repeat, how long their messages are, whether they use punctuation, when they switch languages. Then you can talk to them. The file stays yours. You can delete the upload and the person you made from it at any time from Settings, and it is gone from our side too.
