How to turn a WhatsApp chat into an AI
Five minutes, one exported file, no technical setup. Here is the whole process, including the export steps most guides leave out.
How do I turn a WhatsApp chat into an AI?
Export the chat from WhatsApp without media, upload the .txt or .zip file to Neverfar, pick which person in the conversation you want, and it builds a persona from how they write. It takes a few minutes and the free tier covers one chat.

Step 1 — Export the chat from WhatsApp
On iPhone: open the chat, tap the contact name at the top, scroll down and tap Export Chat, then choose Without Media. Save the file or mail it to yourself.
On Android: open the chat, tap the three dots, tap More, tap Export chat, then choose Without media. Save it or send it to yourself.
WhatsApp produces a .txt file, often wrapped in a .zip. Either one works — you do not need to unzip it.
Step 2 — Upload it
Create a free Neverfar account and drop the file in. The file is read on the server, the messages are parsed, and nothing is shared with anyone else.
Exports in any language work, including Arabic and Arabic dialects, Spanish, Hindi and romanised typing like Arabizi or Hinglish.
Step 3 — Pick the person
A chat has at least two people in it. You choose whose voice you want. Neverfar reads only that person's messages to build the style, and uses the rest of the conversation as context for what was actually said.
Step 4 — Start talking
You get a private thread that looks like a normal messenger. It replies in their rhythm — their message length, their punctuation, their habits. If it feels off, you can rebuild it or delete the whole thing in one click.
What happens to your file
- It is stored against your account only, and no other user can read it.
- It is never sold and never used to train foundation models.
- You can delete the person and everything derived from them at any time.
- You confirm at upload that you have the right to use the chat.
Common questions
Can I do this with iMessage, Telegram or Instagram DMs?
Neverfar is built around the WhatsApp export format today. Other sources are not supported yet. If you can get the conversation into a plain text file that looks like a WhatsApp export, it may parse, but it is not officially supported.
Do I need to export media?
No — choose “Without media”. Photos, voice notes and videos are not used, and skipping them makes the export much smaller and faster.
What if the export has thousands of messages?
That is ideal. Longer histories produce a far more accurate persona. The upload limit is 25 MB, which is many years of text-only conversation.
Does it work with group chats?
Yes. You choose one participant, and their messages are used to build the persona.
Is it free?
Yes for the first chat. Paid plans raise the limits on how many people and messages you can have.
